Today we join Laurie and the Mikkelsen family in mourning the passing of our dearly loved friend of the festival, Margaret. Margaret passed away today surrounded by her family.
Margaret joined the board with husband Laurie some years ago and has been a driving force behind all aspects of the festival, but most of all, giving great support and help with the performing arts parts of the festival. She brought with her a vast array of experience, having been the Principle and Vocal Tutor at the John Young Talent School in Melbourne for 20 years, before her and Laurie moved to Queensland.
Margaret went on to be vocal coach at Dance Works in Wooloogabba for over 25 years. Since 1990 Margaret also taught students privately, something she did with great success for almost 30 years. Many of Margaret’s students went on to compete in the Jacaranda Quest for Talent and even bigger things.
Margaret worked tireless as a festival board member and in the years she served made a massive difference to the festival. Always willing to lend a hand, even in areas that were not her faute, she become a vital part of the team that put the festival together each year.
Margaret is an irreplaceable part of the festival family and will be sorely missed.
Rest in Peace.
